![]() ![]() ![]() She is the culmination of the failures of her mothers, and she is far too intelligent not to take that lesson as given. Frey doesn't need a "This is how I'm stronger" monologue to explain how Susurrus is no longer an issue, it's in how she carries herself, the friends she made, the world she now protects. It's this character development that I really love about this game. Frey's upbringing has made her uniquely suited to overcoming what all the other Tantas, even the first one, could not. She has something that she stands for that cannot be shaken by her own whispers, much less those of a piece of enchanted jewelry. But Frey is not the same as she was in the beginning of the game. So in the post game, Susurrus is sealed and back to being Cuff. She's chosen to give herself to the world of her own volition as it's protector and Tanta. She has a home, a family, a world, people that love her. By her suppression of Susurrus, she's largely dealt with all of that. It's at this point that she's most vulnerable to Cuff's influence, which eventually leads her to conflict with the Tantas. Helpful people are thrown aside, she desperately tries to abandon the world, she lets nobody close. Frey's corruption is actually at the beginning of the game. She's spent her entire life doubting herself, wondering if there's anything for her. I think Frey already has a Susurrus in her life, and her name is Alfre Holland. It would be easy to say that Frey is immune due to being the daughter of the Tanta of love, but I think it's more complex than that. This brings us to Frey, daughter of Cinta. Contrary to Susurrus' methods, Cinta suffered external corruption, keeping her mind but losing her body. Her corruption changed her into an unlovable beast, but she still kept her mind thanks to the everlasting love for her daughter. Then, and only then, in her grief did she fall. ![]() We see very clearly that to the very end, she loved Frey and sent her to New York for her safety. The odd one out, Cinta, got turned into a dragon. Susurrus has well and truly invaded their minds, destroying the Tantas that the people loved. Their realms are representative of their corruption. These Tantas are the ones we fight, we see they still have their forms. Her corruption was to be forever stricken from Athia into a world of her own, completely unable to affect the world outside her minds eye. Olas was the Tanta of wisdom, and she retreated into her books to try and heal Athia. Prav was the Tanta of justice, her corruption was to enforce justice by any means, even to the detriment of fairness. Sila was the Tanta of strength, her corruption was to take strength to its logical conclusion, destruction. It's actually apt that Frey called the phenomenon the "Break", because it's almost literally a mental break that causes the fall of the Tantas. Susurrus - A whispering or rustling sound. ![]() To start, let's look at the obvious, his name. I think it's worth digging into Cuff's methods and explaining his particular brand of villainy in hopes to explain why I love him and why it makes Frey's journey even greater in my mind. Although there's a lot of discussion about how Cuff can go back to his "normal self" in the post-game and why Frey is content with it being Tanta of Tantas. I just want to give my compliments to the devs for creating such an insidious villain in true killer rabbit style. Yeah, I'm talking about Cuff AKA Susurrus. ![]()
